Latte Art

Some of you may not know but I’ve been working at an independent(all organic) coffee shop for quite sometime. Since working there I’ve developed a great appreciation for coffee and latte art. Starbucks does not have shit on what local coffee shops do. The skills and technique are definitely something that develop over the period of time that you’re in this business but my love and admiration are forever growing.

There is a lot that is learned when making coffee, it is much harder than it looks. Everything from tampering the espresso grinds, pulling the shot on time, frothing the milk perfectly and making beautiful latte art, it doesn’t come easy. I’ve worked there since the beginning of the year and still have not been able to master latte art. I have one coworker who can make the most elegant looking rosetta but he’s been working with coffee for damn near 10 years. It takes time.

When it comes to making latte art there’s free pour and etching. Etching is a lot easier to do but you get mad props for being successful in free pour. Some of the most common designs made are Rosetta’s and hearts. Anyway, I thought I’d post some pretty pictures of some latte art I’ve been inspired by. Hopefully this post gave you a better understanding or insight on your coffee, and maybe some appreciation.

One of my favorite sites to go to and look at latte art is called Art in my coffee. Simply fabulous.

Do you enjoying going to coffee shops? What are some of your favorite coffee shops to go to in your town?

Latte art, Molli & PENIS.

Well a few days ago I talked about purchasing a new macro lens for my camera and it finally arrived! I’ve been taking lots of pictures;

Beautiful latte art from my work.

Pretty little Mollipants.

Flowers in the backyard.

And after 8hrs of baking in the kitchen, I finally finished this for a client. I must say, this was one of my favorite cakes I’ve baked so far. :P It was so hilarious to see peoples’ reactions when I carried it:

And isn’t this just the funniest thing you’ve ever seen? Aaron and I were experimenting with some photography methods a couple months back and shot this. I just found it in my dropbox tonight while scrolling through. I love finding semi-new photos I’ve never seen before.

Had a blast baking these beauties in my breads class. It was even more fun shooting pictures of them :P

And here is a picture of the pretty cake I baked last week. Basket weave! It’s so tedious but I had lots of fun learning this and making the royal icing flowers.
